This group of men are from our local VFW. They are called upon to perform Military Funeral Honors at the funerals of veterans. The honor guards all pass by the casket to pay their respects. Then the flag is removed from the casket and folded. The flag is then presented to the family members.
This funeral was on a very cold and windy day in February. The tribute was held outside the church.

On this day they went out to the cemetery. It was a very hot August day and they took refuge under a shade tree.

After the gun salute, taps is played.

The Commander gives orders for the 3-volley salute.

They all stand at attention as Taps is played. This tribute took place at the cemetery on a very cold and snowy day.
These men are dedicated to their duties and show up no matter what the weather. Most of them are in the 70's and some in the 80's.
The Commander, shown here saluting, is my Dad.

Birthday Cake

Today is a very special birthday so I made a very special birthday cake. It is a new recipe I've been wanting to try but needed an occasion. And today is that occasion. It turned out nice although the flavor remains a secret, only to be known to the ones who get to eat a piece.

And then we did this to it.

This kid………

chloe 001

She is trouble.

These candy canes were on my Christmas tree until she discovered them.

chloe 007

This is her favorite place to perch in my office.

She stays on the chair for about 30 seconds.

And then she’s back on the table.

When she isn’t on my office table, you can find her on the kitchen counter

cleaning her feet with the napkins.

I told ya, this kid is trouble. But what sweet trouble she is.
