We spent Easter Sunday at Lorin & Julee's house. Wow what a houseful of people! It was Hannah's birthday so we had a little party too. Here she is with her cake with cousins Aubree and Lily and Grandpa Hayseed looking on. At the dinner table the discussion turned to whether Tracy and Cole's baby was going to be a girl or a boy. Julie knew the old pencil on a string prediction and said it seemed pretty accurate. Jim was the skeptic and said no way could it be. So after the plates were cleared away, out came the pencil. Jim was the first to sit down and sure enough, four girls was the results. Just about everyone took their turn in the prediction chair.

After watching how it was done, Jim decided he needed to try it. Here he is testing it on Tyler. As you can see Tyler was not overly impressed.
By the way the pencil predicted a boy for Tracy and Cole and a girl for Kari and Jon. We'll know in a few more months!

Hannah's New Dress

Hannah's birthday is on Easter Sunday this year. Her present from Auntie Melissa and Uncle Travis came in the mail on Friday. Here she is in her new blue birthday dress with matching hair clips and sunglasses. She wouldn't put the glasses on and did not want to smile. Hmmmm, imagine that.
So leave it to the big brother to model the pretty flowered blue sunglasses.
Mack is spending the weekend with us. He's made himself right at home. He's taken up residency right here at night while we watch television although he'd rather be up on the couch.

On Friday mornings the routine is to pick Tyler and Hannah up at 10:00 and go to the library for story time. Mr. Dave and Miss Ann do a wonderful job of reading to the kids. Usually the 2-3 year olds are separate from the 4-5 year olds but this week they were all together because the Easter bunny was going to visit during story time. There must have been close to 50 kids there this week! (Tyler and Hannah are right up front in the green and purple shirts)

Here's Hannah getting her basket of goodies from the Easter bunny.

Alex was in town this week so he joined us at the library.

Here they are all sitting on the Easter bunny's lap.

Pies, pies and more pies

This weekend there's a pie contest at the Home & Business Expo and I thought well I can make a decent pie. So I got myself a pretty new pie plate and picked my recipe for Cherry Almond Mousse Pie.
So I go to pick up the entry form and one requirement is you have to use a homemade crust. PANIC!!! I couldn't make a decent crust from scratch for nothing. So I go to my mother-in-law who is known for making the best crust. For the next week, she teaches me the art of making a pie crust. I think we made a total of 7 or 8 crusts. After my final lesson I was left to perfect this myself. Jim and Joni ate enough pies this past week because after I'd make a decent looking one, I'd have to fill it with something. Dad even got his favorite, banana cream.

Here's the crust that I used for the entry.
Not too bad!
And then there was the filling and decorating. Hannah and Tyler helped of course, which made me nervous because I was so afraid I would forget something or have something extra added with all those helping hands.

So about 4 p.m. I put the finishing touches on the pie. Whipped cream chocolate shavings, toasted almonds and some cherries. Everyone says it looks like a winner. By this time I'm just glad its done.
So I put the pie in a pie carrier and set it on the seat of the van to take to town. Tyler and Hannah are going with us and they head out the door. All of a sudden I panic! The pie is sitting on the front drivers seat. Did they crawl in like they usually do? Is the pie crushed? Out the door I go and they are innocently playing outside. Why did Grandma have that look on her face?

The pie is entered and now for the wait. The judges sample all eight pies and I get THIRD PLACE!!!!!!!!!!!! Of course the family all says I should have won but I remind them that they did not taste the other seven pies. It was a great time and I am already planning next years entry.

Hannah and Tyler at the STAR news booth.

Tyler's favorite booth. Lots of mowers and tractors! Perfect for a 5 year old boy.

Big Mac

Here's the latest addition to the family. Big Mac
is a chocolate lab and he is almost 2 years old.
Shirley adopted him last week.
He's a really good dog, house trained and all!
Now they just need to get used to each other.

We took Levi up to meet Max on Sunday. They
got along very well

I was doing a little snowshoeing just around the yard and couldn't resist making this. Anyone for a game of fox and goose? Only 18 more days until spring!
